During the weekend of the Competition we are staging Workshops and 'One to One' tuition which are all available to the general public (not available to Semi finalists of the Competition). Please note the places are limited so early booking is highly recommended. All workshops and tuition will be held at Clement Pianos, 221 Lenton Boulevard, Nottingham. NG7 2BY Saturday Workshops 10am - 12pm Jonathan Gee will be offering introductory instruction in stride (30s) bebop (40s/50s) and basic latin grooves (60s/70s) to people with some basic knowledge of piano playing C jam blues, I've got rhythm variations, and You are the sunshine of my life . 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Tim Richards. Jazz improvisation: Using the blues as a starting point, Tim will outline some basic improvisational techniques and demonstrate several contrasting ways of approaching a solo over a simple jazz standard. You should have some previous jazz or blues piano experience and be prepared to take turns joining in. 3pm - 5pm. James Harpham. 'Arranging for Jazz'. James will be covering the specialties of arranging for jazz. Sunday Workshops. 10am - 12pm. Dave Newton. 'Playing Solo Jazz Piano'. Dave will be covering all aspects of solo jazz piano playing. 12.30pm - 2.30pm. Tim Richards. 'Advanced workshop': This is aimed at the more experienced player and will deal with some of the more advanced chord voicing, rhythm and improvisation techniques covered in Vol 2 of Tim's book 'Exploring Jazz Piano'. One To One Tuition. One to one tuition will be available on Saturday and Sunday from Tim Richards, James Harpham, Dave Newton and Jonathan Gee Costs. Workshops: £10.00 per workshop.
